Mainly a placeholder for now. More info for other attacks will be added in the future.
The untapped power of Phantom Slash:
An uncharged Phantom Slash can act as a quick sword and shield in close combat. In fact, it can out-range most attacks in the game! It's a great tool for shutting down opponents that rely on their increased range to approach you. So if we can out-range so many different attacks why do most Zelda players consider Phantom Slash useless? The ending frames (lag) can leave you open to attack if the move misses, shielded, or is simply rolled around. It's a pretty big deal breaker if a move that is suppose to protect you ends up leaving you wide open to punishment. However, this is not so much an issue with Phantom Slash as it is with the players spacing of the move itself. Spacing: Basically doing some kind of action against the opponent while making it difficult or impossible for them to punish you for it. Spacing is a very important part of the game that can make or break a successful attack. Normally when using an uncharged Phantom Slash it remains directly in front of Zelda. This leaves very little space that the opponent has to travel to hit you if the move misses or is dodged. There is a way to extend your spacing by simply jumping back while releasing the phantom. Phantom Slash remains in the spot it's released while Zelda slides away using the momentum from the jump. Pretty simple right? |
Here is an example:
Normally Marth would have easily punished the Phantom Slash simply by dash attacking to hit Zelda. However, with the extended distance required to reach her and the phantom blocking his path, this is no longer an option. You can also punish his failed attempt with an attack of your own. Elevator anyone?
